Vikings Dominate Black Knights on Homecoming Night
Brian Fazio, Valdosta Daily Times

The Vikings started the game strong, and never let off the gas pedal.

Lowndes wasn’t very welcoming to its Homecoming opponent, Central Gwinnett, defeating the Black Knights 42-0 Friday night at Martin Stadium.

Heading into the contest, the Vikings (3-1) were bent on getting revenge on the Black Knights for spoiling (2-1) 2006’s homecoming with a 11-7 victory.

This year, the Black Knights didn’t even come close.

“I’m just glad we stepped up, and did our thing,” Lowndes senior defensive tackle T.J. Manning said. “We came out here, and did what we were supposed to do.”

The Vikings did their thing on both sides of the ball, putting up 414 yards of total offense, while holding the Black Knights to 117 total yards and just 31 rushing yards.

Lowndes kept pressure on the Black Knights’ offensive line all game, holding quarterback Devan Strickland to 11 completions on 21 passes for 85 yards.

While the offense kept the Black Knights at bay, the Vikings ran all over Central Gwinnett, starting on the first drive of the game.

After receiving the kickoff, the Vikings needed just five plays for a 62-yard scoring drive.

Darriett Perry ran his second carry of what would be a big game 44 yards into the end zone. Mark Willis put the extra point through the uprights to start the scoring at 7-0.

Lowndes and coach Randy McPherson continued to give the ball to his senior wingback, handing the ball off to Perry the next six offensive plays, as he led a 12-play drive that resulted in a 38-yard Willis field goal
