Vikings Rout Coffee 42-13
Brian Fazio, Valdosta Daily Times

Friday night’s Lowndes-Coffee matchup began with the Trojans being the better team on paper, ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAA.

After the smoke had cleared, the Vikings were the better team. Period. No doubt about it.

Lowndes controlled the contest from start to finish, defeating Coffee 42-13 at Martin Stadium.

Lowndes (4-1) scored on its first three drives of the game, putting the Trojans’ backs against the wall early.

Coffee (4-1) appeared to be pulling back into the game at the end of the second quarter, finding the end zone on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Burke Batten to Demario Bennett at the end of the first half.

That was pretty much the bulk of the Trojans’ comeback attempt, though, because the Vikings’ defense stepped up.

On the night, the Vikings held Coffee to 361 yards of total offense and 110 in the first half.

“I’m so proud of our kids,” Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson said. “They really played with heart against a good team.”
