Vikings Advance to the Quarterfinals with 31-12 Win Over Douglass Brian Fazio, Valdosta Daily Times The Vikings got critical plays from their defense, their offensive line played big all night and they showed discipline during several trying situations against Douglass Friday night at Martin Stadium. In the end, No. 4 Lowndes (11-1) advanced to the third round of the AAAAA playoffs with a 31-12 victory. Lowndes’ football was on display from the beginning, as the Vikings marched down the field, and then crushed the Astros’ hope of their own offensive advance. Darriet Perry took the first four hand-offs of the game, rushing for gains of 11, six, five and seven yards from the Vikings’ 24-yard line. In nine more plays, Perry finished the 76-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown. The Vikings’ offensive line provided the running room for Perry and company, as the Vikings averaged 6.1 yards per carry on their first drive. “Our offensive line played well all night,” Lowndes coach Randy McPherson said. “We had just one punt, and that was on a real long field.” |
