Vikings Pound Eagles Landing
Bryan Fazio, Valdosta Daily Times

After a loss in week one, the Lowndes High football team went into Friday night’s game against Eagle’s Landing seeking to improve from a poor showing in the season opener.

After the first 24 minutes of play in week two, the Vikings’ game plane altered to wanting to dominate and earn a shutout.

Lowndes (1-1) succeeded, defeating Eagle’s Landing (0-2) 42-0 in front of a home crowd at Martin Stadium.

Ahead 30-0 at halftime, the Vikings gathered in the locker room, wanting to prove that week one was an aberration, by putting a zero on the scoreboard.

“At halftime, we talked about trying to get a shutout, and they came through,” Lowndes coach Randy McPherson said.

The Vikings’ defense dominated throughout the game, keeping the Golden Eagles contained all night. Lowndes held Eagle’s Landing to just 28 yards of total offense, with the Golden Eagles’ three longest plays going for 17, 6 and 5 yards.

Two of the Golden Eagles’ three first downs came in the second half, as the Vikings played their second string for all of the fourth quarter.

The strong defensive play gave the Vikings quality field position all night, keeping Eagle’s Landing’s backs close to the end zone.
