Lowndes Slips Against the Hoyas in 9-0 Defeat

Harrison came up with the only big play it needed, as Lowndes couldn’t convert one of many.

The Hoyas avenged a 2006 opening loss by defeating the Vikings 9-0 Friday night in a rain-soaked Martin Stadium.

After Lowndes tackled the Hoyas behind the line of scrimmage, Harrison snuck a pass, behind the defense and took the first and only step to victory.

Harrison’s junior quarterback Christian Burnett hit running back Jamal Austin in the flat for a 69-yard touchdown reception just 58 seconds into the game.

The Vikings held Harrison’s running game at bay for most of the night, but a timely pass and a turnover by Lowndes led the Hoyas to a win.

The game went back and forth, with the Hoyas controlling the ball but Lowndes coming on offense in quality field possession.

However, miscues by the Vikings prevented them from picking up key first downs and putting the ball over the goal line.
