Lowndes Defeats Houston County 52-14 In its final home game of the regular season, Lowndes High dominated Houston County on a rainy night at Martin Stadium Friday. The Bears (3-5, 0-5 in Region 1-AAAAA) came into the game without a region win, and after a 52-14 loss to the Vikings, they remain at the bottom of the standings. The Vikings, however, continue to hold up the No. 1 ranking in Class AAAAA, and the No. 3 ranking nationally, as they close in on a second consecutive Region 1-AAAAA title. Lowndes can win the region championship with a victory against Coffee next Friday, but head coach Randy McPherson only had the Bears on his mind this Friday. The Vikings’ defense set the tone early, holding Houston to two straight three-and-outs, followed by an interception and a third three-and-out. The offense used the good field position to score two touchdowns and a field goal. By the time the first quarter ended, the Vikings were already ahead 17-0. “I’m proud of our kids,” McPherson said. “We played well offensive and defensively.” |
