Lowndes Vikings: 2008 Region 1-AAAAA Champions! Lowndes became the first team all season to shut out the Coffee Trojans Friday night, and in doing so earned the recognition of the 2008 Region 1-AAAAA Champions. The Vikings clinched their second-consecutive region title thanks to a 21-0 shutout at Jardine Stadium. The Lowndes’ defense held the Trojans (7-2) to just 91 offensive yards, including 64 yards on the ground. “For the defense to come in here and shutout a team like Coffee, with the record they have, is unbelievable,” Lowndes Coach Randy McPherson said. The Vikings’ defense was big all night, and it was only fitting that it was the unit which sealed the victory. With under three minutes left in the game, the Trojans were looking to spoil the shutout, passing on three-straight plays from their own territory. After the first two passes went short, and the third fell incomplete, the Trojans looked to air it out in hopes of extending their hopes on fourth down. |
