Lowndes vs. Kendrick - Game Report
The Viking defense Friday night was flawless, forcing a 52-0 shutout of Kendrick High. The Cherokees never crossed the 50-yard-line, and Lowndes’ offense scored at will all night.

In the first quarter, Steven Hunter’s 39-yard reception of Doug Belk’s pass on the 1-yard line electrified the crowd. Darriett Perry capped off the drive with a one-yard dash for the touchdown. Belk ran in the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

On Kendrick’s first play, Devaris Leonard scooped up a Cherokee fumble and rumbled down to the 1-yard line. Two penlaties moved the Vikings back, forcing Kurtis Schimdt to boot a 24-yard field goal. To close out the first, Stanley Dickson caught a 6-yard TD pass from Doug Belk. Schimdt’s PAT went wide, setting the score at 17-0.

Early in the second, Kendrick botched a punt attempt, allowing Stevie Harden to pounce on the ball at the 1-yard line. Perry darted in the final yard behind punishing blocks from the offensive line. Lynn Williams scored the Vikings’ final touchdown of the half with a 14-yard run. Schimdt surprised the Cherokees with a sweep around the right end, pitching the ball to Jermel Demps for the 2-point conversion.

Demps took advantage of the Cherokees again early in the second half, picking off a pass at the Kendrick 26. Leonard powered down to the one-yard line, setting up Dickson’s TD. The PAT failed, making the score 45-0.

Lowndes emptied the bench in the 4 th, playing B-Team and some freshmen, but still held the Cherokees scoreless. Ronnie Mitchell topped the Viking scoring, firing a 14-yard pass to Kelly Dawsey. Herring’s PAT made the final score 52-0.

“We played our best game so far,” said Coach Randy McPherson. “Defense looked good, offense executed well. I think we’re getting better.”
