Big Plays Defeat Vikings in Scrimmage
The Vikings played well Friday night, but gave up a few crucial plays in a 21-14 varsity scrimmage loss to a physical Northside Warner Robins team.

The first two seven-minute quarters were dominated by Lowndes. The Vikings drove downfield on the ground for the entire first quarter, then ended the drive early in the second. Devarious Leonard broke through a hole from 10 yards out, scoring Lowndes’ first touchdown of the night. Kurtis Schimdt made the PAT, and then drove the kickoff into the endzone for a touchback.

The Eagles started on the 20-yard line and fumbled, allowing the Viking offense to hit the field. On the first play, quarterback Randy J. Williams threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Johnson, bringing the score up to 14-0. To end the half, Schimdt attempted a 51-yard field goal, but it was slightly short.

While the offense moved steadily in the first half, and the Viking defense held strong, the momentum shifted in the second half. With 2:06 remaining in the third quarter, the Eagles turned a blocked punt into a quick seven points. Early in the fourth, Northside tied the ballgame with a 59-yard touchdown pass.

When the Vikings were forced to punt once more, the Eagles blocked the punt again. On their next drive, Northside’s running back dashed downfield for a 44-yard touchdown to end the scoring for the night. Lowndes had one more scoring opportunity. Doug Belk completed a crucial pass to Will Hardesty, but the Vikings later turned the ball over on downs. The Eagles ran out the clock to take the 21-14 win.

Prior to the varsity scrimmage, the Lowndes JV team showed off an explosive passing combination of Robbie Mitchell to Kelly Dawsey. The duo struck the Eagles twice for long gains and one touchdown in their eight-minute quarter. The JV defense held Northside Warner Robins scoreless for the quarter.
