Vikings Defeat Yellow Jackets in First Scrimmage
The 2005 Lowndes Vikings took to the field for the first of their two pre-season games Friday night at Thomas County Central, and came home victorious. While the junior varsity first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie, the Vikings defeated the TCC Yellow Jackets 21-10 in the final three varsity quarters.

The first quarter was a defensive battle between two running offenses. The JV players of Lowndes and TCC were evenly matched, and played a scoreless nine minutes of football.

When the varsity players took the field, the Viking defense came out strong. Devarius Leonard picked off a Yellow Jacket pass blocked by Bradley Fox, setting the Vikings up with great field position. Sophomore Darriet Perry punched the ball in the endzone from one yard out to complete the Vikings’ first scoring drive with 5:08 remaining in the half. The PAT went wide, making the score 6-0. Later in the second, Lowndes threw an interception, giving Thomas County Central the ball in scoring territory. The Yellow Jacket offense then stung the Vikes with a 26-yard TD pass. The kick was good, giving TCC a 7-6 lead.

Doug Belk completed a 8-yard touchdown pass to Matt Harper late in the third quarter. Leonard then slammed through the Jacket defensive line for the 2-point conversion and a 14-7 lead.

TCC tried to stage a comeback with a long drive deep into Viking territory. However, the Lowndes defense stiffened, forcing an 18-yard field goal. To ensure the win, the Vikings slammed down field with a series of running plays, capped off by Leonard’s 2-yard touchdown and Kurtis Schimdt’s PAT.
