Lowndes vs. Tift County - Game Report
The Tift Co. Blue Devils brought their air offensive attack to Martin Stadium to challenge the 2004 State Champion Vikings in a game that wasn’t decided until the final minutes. Lowndes held a slim 9-7 lead at halftime, but two special team plays saved the game, which the Vikings won 16-7.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the 1 st quarter with Darriett Perry’s 20-yard dash around the left end to the endzone. Kurtis Schimdt’s PAT failed, making the score 6-0. Tift County answered with a long 31-yard strike from Scott Shuman to Marquis King into Viking territory. Shuman then threw a 20-yard TD pass on 3rd and 20 to King. Tift made the PAT for the 7-6 lead.

Lowndes regained the lead, 9-7, when Schimdt booted a 22-yard field goal with 9:35 remaining in the half. The rest of the half was a defensive struggle, with neither team scoring. The Viking running offense managed 133 yards, while Tift’s passing game made 128 yards in the 1 st half.

A Viking personal foul penalty was enforced on the kick, so Tift opened the 3 rd quarter with an onside kick. Lowndes recovered, but fumbled on their first play, giving Tift the ball on the Viking 25. The Viking defense held strong though, forcing Tift to attempt a 40-yard field goal, which they missed. The Blue Devils threatened once more with 3:25 in the third, attempting another field goal. Stevie Harden broke through the line and blocked the kick, saving the slim Viking lead.

The Viking special teams came through early in the 4 th, when Davvion Thompson recovered a punt which bounced off of a Tift player. Lowndes took a commanding lead when Doug Belk scored on a 16-yard keeper. The PAT was good, giving Lowndes the 16-7 lead. Tift tried to stage a comeback, but they were held by the defense. Quarterback Scott Shuman was sacked by Asmar Caesar and Joe Rodgers on third-and-10, giving the Vikings the 16-7 win.
