Vikings Shut-Out Tri-Cities in Season Opener
The Lowndes Vikings opened their season with a 42-0 win over the Tri-Cities Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had improved from last year, driving down the field through the air multiple times during the night. However, the Viking defense forced turnovers and made clutch plays to keep the Bulldogs from the endzone. A balanced Lowndes offense cut through the line and burned Tri-Cities on deep passes.

The Vikings’ first drive was jumpstarted by Darriet Perry’s 32-yard kickoff return. Tri-Cities held the Vikings for three plays, forcing Lowndes to go for it on 4 th-and-1. Darriet Perry broke free downfield, scoring on a 51-yard touchdown run. Doug Belk then dashed around the corner into the endzone for the two-point conversion.

Kurtis Schimdt booted the kickoff to the 1 yard line, sticking the Bulldogs way back in their own territory. Antonio Townsend stripped Tri-Cities of the ball, and Jermel Demps picked it up on the 4-yard line. Lynn Williams, who had seen no action during the pre-season, ran the ball in for the 4-yard touchdown. Schimdt’s PAT was good.

In the second quarter, Demps stopped Tri-Cities’ march into Viking territory with an interception.Williams then dashed into the endzone from 26 yards out. The PAT hit the upright and bounced out, making the score 28-0.

Tri-Cities drove into field-goal range, but Stevie Harden didn’t let the Bulldogs get 3 points on the board. Harden blocked the kick, and Devin Rice pounced on the loose ball To end the drive, Belk connected on a 25-yard pass to Matt Harper to the 1-yard line. Williams slipped through the line, scoring his third touchdown of the night. After the defense held Tri-Cities once more, Randy J. Williams entered the game and fired a 33-yard touchdown pass to Robert Frazier to close the half.

The defenses played to a stalemate in the 3rd quarter. Tri-Cities took to the air on a crucial 3 rd down, but Harden knocked the ball loose from the receiver, forcing the Bulldogs to punt.

Late in the fourth the Vikings made their final touchdown of the night when Tavarus Williams punched into the endzone from four yards away to finish off the game 42-0.
