Lowndes vs Valdosta - Game Report
The Vikings dominated the Valdosta Wildcats Friday night with a 28-0 shut-out. Coach Randy McPherson was pleased with the performance: “It’s just a great game. It was a total team effort.”

Valdosta threatened early in the first quarter, driving downfield steadily. With the help of quarterback Michael Turner’s 36-yard downfield dash, the ‘Cats reached the one-yard-line and decided to go for it on 4 th down. The defensive line drove the ‘Cats back, and Devin Rice stuffed the quarterback sneak, giving Lowndes the ball deep in their own territory. Although the Vikings were forced to punt on that drive, they struck late in the half.

Doug Belk started off with a 24-yard pass to Matt Harper. Belk then ran 20 yards on a quarterback keeper. To finish the drive, Devaris Leonard broke several tackles on a 24-yard touchdown run. Kurtis Schimdt booted the PAT, making the score 7-0 at the half.

The Lowndes defense contained Valdosta very well in the second half. On the Vikings first possession, Belk connected with Darriett Perry for a 23-yard pass. Belk then found Harper in the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the 3rd.

Lowndes continued to drive on the Wildcats in the fourth. Randy J. Williams’ 23-yard pass to Lynn Williams and a 15-yard run by Stanley Dickson were key in the Vikings’ 83-yard drive. Lynn Williams, who appeared to be back in championship form, finished the drive by taking a pitch and curled around the right end for a 31-yard TD run.

To cap off the scoring, Stanley Dickson charged through the Valdosta defense for his 36-yard touchdown run with 1:33 remaining, making the score 28-0. Schimdt was a perfect 4-4 on PAT's on the night.

“You know, I’m proud of the kids,” said Coach McPherson. He had a good reason to be proud. This 28-0 victory was the most the Vikings have ever outscored Valdosta, and only the third shut-out.
