Lowndes vs. Coffee -- Game Report
Friday night at Coffee County’s Jardine Stadium, the Vikings wrapped up their 2004 regular season undefeated with a 21-0 shut-out. Lowndes (10-0) used their dominating running offense and their crushing defense to win their fifth shut-out. The Vikings are region champs and will host the Region 3 4th seed Windsor Forest Friday night at Martin Stadium.

The Vikings started off the game strong on the ground. After Lynn Williams got the Vikings a combined 55 yards down field on two plays, Doug Belk dashed around the right side on a 12-yard touchdown run. Kurtis Schmidt’s PAT was good, and the score was 7-0 with 9:46 to go in the 1st. On Lowndes’ next scoring drive, Darriet Perry broke tackles on a 21-yard gain, and then Williams dashed in a 23-yard TD. The point after was good with 4:02 left in the 1st quarter. After the defense held Coffee yet again, Lowndes got down to the 17-yard line but just missed the 34-yard field goal attempt.

In the 2nd quarter, Lowndes’ defense continued to shut down the Trojans. When Coffee went for it on 4th-and-3 on Lowndes’ 36-yard line, the defense smothered the rush, giving the Vikings the ball. After Perry and Belk’s 10 and 15-yard runs, Octavious Everett found an opening and went 13 yards for the Viking’s third score of the night. The defense forced Coffee to punt, and Williams ran the ball to the 3-yard line. However, Belk was picked off in the endzone with 2:59 to go in the half.

The 2nd half was dominated by defense. Neither offense could put any points on the scoreboard. The Vikings got down in scoring range more than once, but the Trojan defense held strong. Coffee did take to the air, but interceptions by Krys Brooks and Stanley Dixon shut down two Coffee drives. After Dixon returned his pick to the 10, the Viking reserves got the ball to the 2 yard line with 33 seconds to go in the game. However, Lowndes let time expire to go home with a 21-0 win.
