2004 Season Opener - Lowndes vs. Tri-Cities
The Lowndes Vikings started strong and never looked back with their first shutout of 2004. The defense forced several turnovers, setting up the Vikings for three scores and killing Tri-Cities' lone drive. With the offense playing strong on the ground the whole night, the first 2004 game was a great night for the Vikings.

To start off the night, the Vikings pounded down the field on the ground, with Marlon Jones running in the touchdown from five yards out. After this score, the defense got the ball back for the Vikes. Jermaine Clemons knocked the ball loose from the Tri-Cities quarterback, and Asmar Ceasar picked it up at the Tri-Cities 12-yd line. Then kicker Kurtis Schmidt kicked the field goal. To finish the 1st quarter, the Tri-Cities punter had to scramble after a high snap and was slammed by the Viking defense near the endzone. Octaviues Everett ran in the TD.

In the second quarter, the Vikings started with Everett running the ball into the red-zone, and then on his next carry running in the touchdown. The defense held Tri-Cities to -17 rushing yards in the 1st half, and they kept the offense in good field position. Although the next drive resulted in a missed field goal, the last drive of the half was an exciting one. The fans rose to their feet as freshman Darriet Perry ran in his first varsity touchdown on a 53-yard run. Schmidt then nailed the PAT, making the score 31-0 at half.

In the third quarter, Tri-Cities aired it out and was making progress, but Demetrius Rollins forced a fumble causing a touchback. The Vikings then drove from their 20 to the endzone, helped by Everett's 63-yard run for a touchdown. Lynn Williams then scored another touchdown, with Marc Herring kicking the point after. The defense once again dominated the Bulldogs.

With a 45-0 Viking advantage going into the fourth quarter, the GHSA mercy rule required a running clock, (click here for info on the running clock from the GHSA). With many starters on the sideline, the defense kept the shut-out, while setting up the offense for another TD. The defense forced a fumble on the 3-yd line, and Krys Brooks put it in the rest of the way. Offense, defense, and special teams, all showed their power Friday night.
