2004 Game Report -- Lowndes vs. Valdosta
In the 2004 Winnersville Classic, the Lowndes Viking defense shined through as Lowndes beat cross-town rival Valdosta 28-7. Valdosta's only touchdown came on a 99-yard kickoff return. In the game, Lowndes held VHS to less than 20 total offensive yards! The Viking offense also played hard, with 21 points scored in the 1st quarter. Both teams were then scoreless until late in the 4th when Lowndes sealed the deal with a long touchdown drive. This sell-out game turned out to be a great night for Viking Football.

On the second play of the night, Doug Belk dashed down the field 32 yards. Then on the next 30+ yard play, Lynn Williams caught a short pass from Belk, getting 34 yards. To finish off the first drive, Devarious Leonard powered in from the 1 yard line for the Vikings first TD. The Cats answered the Vikings on the kickoff, receiving the ball at the 1 and going 99 yards to the endzone.

The Vikings' next score started with a 26-yard pass from Belk to Matt Harper. When Belk left the drive with cramps, the Vikings did not miss a beat. Quarterback Randy J. Williams slipped the ball to L. Williams, who then broke free from the Cat defenders for a 54-yard touchdown run. Darriet Perry's 26-yard run ignited Lowndes' final scoring drive in the 1st. L. Williams tacked on 14 yard. The drive ended when Belk ran in a 6-yard QB-option.

It was a defensive showdown in the second and third quarter, as neither Lowndes nor Valdosta could score. Lowndes made two interceptions, with both Stevie Harden and Demetrius Rollins picking off VHS passes. Field goal attempts on both of those drives were just short.

To finish off the LHS victory in the 4th, Lowndes made a clock-killing drive. On 4th-and-goal, Octaviues Everrett smashed in the final yard for the touchdown. Next week the Vikings (7-0, 2-0 region) will be playing at Tift County (5-2, 1-1 region). This week Tift was beaten by Coffee County 14-16.
