Among the several teachers hired by the Lowndes County Board of Education on Monday night were three teachers at Lowndes High and/or Parker Mathis Learning Center who will also serve as varsity offensive coaches.  Lowndes County welcomes these new teachers and Viking coaches:

Charles Ryan Nelson – Coach Nelson comes to the Viking football program from Central High School in Phenix City, AL, where he has coached since 2008.  He served as the quarterback coach from 2008-2010 and as offensive coordinator from 2011-2019.  As an offensive coordinator, his teams played for the state championship in 2018 and 2019, winning the championship in 2018.  He graduated from Central High School (Phenix City, AL) in 2003 where he played football and baseball.  He played collegiate ball at Chattahoochee Valley Community College and Auburn University of Montgomery.  In 2007 he served as a student assistant for Auburn University under Coach Tommy Tuberville.  Coach Nelson has one daughter, Bentleigh, age 2, and said he is “excited to be a part of the Lowndes family.”

Kevin Pych – Coach Pych comes to Lowndes from Fitzgerald, GA, where he served as an assistant football coach and head soccer coach at Fitzgerald High School.  Originally from Detroit, Michigan, he has also served as an assistant coach at Lee County and Valdosta High as well as working in North Carolina.  He graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina in 2002.  Coach Pych is married to Brittany, who works as a nurse at SGMC.  They are expecting their first child in August and currently reside on a small farm in Hahira.  

Keith Wicker – Coach Wicker makes the move to Lowndes from Phenix City, AL, where he served as the running backs coach at Central High School.  He has spent his entire coaching career of 26 years at Central.  Coach Wicker has a master’s degree from Troy University.  His wife teaches kindergarten in Columbus, and they have one daughter.  Coach Wicker stated that he is “excited to join such a rich tradition of education and sports at Lowndes County.”

In the coming days, Coach Jamey DuBose will introduce his coaching staff members virtually via social media.
